Olivia Newton-John's Ex Surfaces in Mexican Village

Olivia Newton-John's missing former partner is living the incognito life of a ship's hand at a Mexican seaside village, according to US reports.
Patrick McDermott vanished at the age of 48 in 2005 on an overnight fishing trip and was believed to have gone overboard. He and Newton-John, who is now remarried, had the day before broken off their nine-year relationship.
But a private detective has kept up the search undaunted. Philip Klein this week revealed he had been given proof of life by a representative of McDermott, including a voice recording, Australia's Herald Sun reports.
Klein reportedly said McDermott sent messages asking to be left alone.
The rep said: 'Pat has asked that I portray to you his innocence. Pat has committed no crime. Pat simply wishes to be left alone. Let him live his life in peace and harmony. He is safe and has started anew again in a new place both physically and mentally. Stop this search immediately.'
McDermott is believed to be living in Sayulita and working on a tourist yacht.
Klein, who is writing a book about McDermott and claimed he stopped the hunt, set up a website to find McDermott and monitored the IP addresses of computers that visited the site and those from which tips were sent. McDermott was alleged to have staged his death to allow a son to collect on a life insurance policy. But monthly payments on his insurance policy have continued and no attempt to claim on it has been made.
Newton John, 61, stayed silent for years on the disappearance. Last year she told the Australian Women's Weekly: 'I think there will always be a question mark. Even though the US Coast Guard has closed the case and considers him missing at sea, I don't think I will ever really be at peace with it.'
